The New Mission

San Francisco is littered with these wonderful old cinemas, relics of a bygone era that are now being converted into condos or gyms or 99 cent stores.  This was one of my favorites, in part because of the way it looks, but also because it seems to be making an announcement: New Mission.  Jutting up into the sky taller than anything around, this old cinema sign can be seen up and down Mission Street.  And what a street it is, filled with Salvadorian Mexican Tacqueria's, hipster bars, dive bars, quirky little stores and a very diverse population of residences.  Which is why it's such an exciting and constantly fascinating place to explore.

I spent my last night eating there and most of my week in San Francisco walking the streets of the Mission on my own mission, to seek out chic and cheap places to eat.  Markets, grocery stores and interesting shops (food and otherwise, I have a thing for bookstores).

Needless to say 5 days was only enough time to scratch the surface of this new and every changing Mission.  So stay tuned!

I have 4 more restaurants that I need to tell you about along with some other food related thoughts.  I just got in the door, it's 1:40 in the morning and I have to say what I always do when I get home from a trip:  I love traveling almost as much as I love cooking, but there is nothing I love more then coming home.

Night.
