Last year I had a wonderful experience with the Paisley Farm CSA. "CSA" stands for "community supported agriculture" and these organizations give you the opportunity to buy a share in a local farm so that every week of the growing season you get whatever is ripe, fresh and ready from the fields! Last year, when I did the math, it ended up being around $24 a week for an abundance of ever changing, seasonal goodies.
This year a new CSA has started up even closer to my home, the aptly named Lower East Side CSA, but it has already sold out! If you are looking for a CSA in your neighborhood Just Food has set up a great site that can help you locate one.
Don't wait! Time is running out and a lot of these CSA's are already full! The Jimmy's 43 site for Paisley Farms still has a few shares left so if you are in or near the East Village don't postpone - join up today!
All the info is here. Download the PDF. It will tell you everything you need to know to get started. A full share costs $550 for the season.
