How Sweet It Is

Over at grist.org I saw this interesting article about sugar beets, interesting because once again it shows what power and influence Monsanto has over agriculture in this country and also because I had no idea that that over half of conventional sugar was made from beets. Now in addition to soy, corn, canola and cotton we can add sugar beets to the list of GMO crops.

Sugar beets? I really thought that all sugar was cane sugar. Learn something new every day. My conclusion and the conclusion of the article is: buy organic. Unlike in Europe where they have labeling requirements that tell you if something is GMO here the only way you can be sure is to buy organic.

Will that be one spoon or two?
