Rural Australian Town Bans Plastic Water Bottles

Way to go! The BBC reports today that Bundanoon, New South Wales, Australia have banned plastic water bottle because, drum roll, they are bad for the environment!
Let's hope this starts a trend.

Why would you ever hope this starts a trend? The fact that some back-roads town doesn't give its citizens the option to recycle hardly seems a legitimate cause to hope this will spread to other places.

The plastic in water bottles can be recycled to produce carpets, clothing, piping, and a myriad of other useful things.

How is a 100% recyclable product bad for the environment again...?

It's not biodegradable and it's made from fossil fuels...it's totally unsustainable and takes 1000 years to biodegrade in a landfill.
