No not that kind of American cheese, the good locally made farmstead stuff! The American Cheese Society has made October American Cheese month to celebrate the delicious and diverse cheeses of North American and the cheese makers, cheesemongers and chef's who help bring them to our table.
The passports cost $10 each, and can be purchased at any participating stores (listed below). The $10 cost of the Passport will be donated to the American Cheese Education Foundation, a sister organization of the ACS dedicated to supporting cheese-related education initiatives, and the 40% off is a way of saying thanks for supporting American cheesemakers!
Here's how it work: go into any of the participating cheese shops (list below) and buy a Cheese Passport for $10 - present this passport at any of the same retailers all month and get 40% off the American Cheese of the day! What a deal!
Each shop will maintain its own calendar of cheeses featuring a different American cheese each day of the month. Some shops will post their calendars online at cheesemonth.com, and for those who don't you'll just have to go by and say hi have a tast of what is on offer and see what you think. It's kind of like a get to know your cheesmonger better month.
